It’s 7pm Tuesday night before Thanksgiving. I had just cleaned and flushed the downstairs toilet when I saw water leaking under it onto the floor; oh, this just can’t be happening! Not only did we have a house full of guests coming on Thursday for Thanksgiving, but this is the only toilet on the first floor. Plus, several of the guests have a hard time climbing stairs. No way did I want any of them to have to struggle getting up and down the stairs.
I’ve been reading a book by Catherine Ponder that was written in the 1960’s called The Healing Secrets of the Ages. In it she talks about the importance of saying, knowing and believing it’s all good; anything is possible, which is what I kept repeating to myself over and over! You see, when you improve your attitude about an event, such as a leaky toilet, you are able to think more clearly, make better decisions and feel better about the outcome. Plus, having a positive mindset usually brings positive results. Before going to sleep and upon waking up the words, “it’s all good; anything is possible”, were going through my mind.
Early the next morning I posted on FaceBook:
“Help! Toilet leaking; hosting Thanksgiving! Need a good and reliable plumber today; who do you recommend?”
Within minutes, Sonia W gave me the name and number of a plumber she has used for years. I called Nicolas and left a voice mail. Minutes later, I was booking an appointment with him for that afternoon. Let me ask you, when is the last time you called a plumber who could come out that afternoon?
I continued to repeat in my mind, “It’s all good; anything is possible”, because I wanted to know and believe that it was true.
Nicolas arrived mid-afternoon, and within an hour the toilet was fixed and all old parts had been replaced! The bonus was that he was congenial, professional and had a wonderful outlook on life. Another bonus, the toilet now flushes stronger than it has in years! Anytime we need a plumber, Nicolas is our man!
So many times we look at an adverse situation only negatively when really there are always options of how we can choose to view an event. By looking at a negative situation in a positive framework, it resulted in a very positive outcome! But it starts with having a positive mindset and believing that good can come from almost anything, even a leaky toilet.
Because I’ve been asked to share my activities, I am posting them at the end of the blogs under “Staying Connected!”
