In Toastmasters there is a fairly new program called Pathways. The path I’m on is called Presentation Mastery. One of the electives that I have chosen to do is to write 8 blog posts in one month. Yikes!! I’m doing this because it would be a challenge for me and sometimes I just have to challenge myself in order to move forward with my life’s purpose.
The overall theme is the Journey to Self-Love. I believe self-love is the pathway to inner peace and who doesn’t want to feel peaceful inside! The subtopics will vary and be outside the box of what most people think is self-love. On the Journey to Self-Love you’re going to learn different ways to demonstrate love to yourself.
Self-love is a journey into the heart and soul of who you are. We are not taught to love ourselves, but here’s what one of the world’s greatest teachers said: Love your neighbor as yourself. Everyone remembers “Love Your Neighbor” but what about the ‘As Yourself’? To me that means we are to love ourselves first, then love our neighbor as much as we love ourselves. It reminds me of being in an airplane and the flight attendants telling everyone that in case the oxygen masks drop down, put your mask on first before helping someone else. Why is that? Because what good are you to anyone if you have no oxygen, if you can’t breathe? You take care of yourself first, then help the next person. Love is the same way; I don’t believe you can love anyone else more than the amount of love you have for yourself. You can’t give away what you don’t already have.
So how do we love ourselves? What does it look like? What does it feel like? And, why do we need to love ourselves? All these questions will be answered in the next thirty days from the Journey to Self-Love, the pathway to inner peace, the pathway that will open doors and opportunities not only in your personal life but also in your professional life. The more love you have for yourself the greater love you will be sharing with your family, friends and the world.
Hugs and much Love,
